Namibian welterweight champion Tyson Ushona remained unbeaten after beating South Africa?s Schoeman Sindane on a fifth round technical knockout on March 18.
Ushona was in impressive form as he gradually wore his opponent down at a Telecom Boxing Bonanza at the Windhoek Country Club.
The first round was quite even, but by the second a patient Ushona started connecting with some hard blows. Sindane fought back strongly with a few hard punches of his own, but by the third round, Ushona cornered him on the ropes and started pummelling away at his body.
Sindane managed to hang on but by the fourth round he started connecting with some hard blows to the head. By now Sindane was hardly offering any resistance, and with the home fans going wild the referee stepped in and stopped the fight in the fifth round.
It was an impressive performance by Ushona, who was initially patient and waited for the openings, before he stepped up the tempo and finished his opponent off in style. The win extends Ushona?s unbeaten run to 11 fights as a professional, while Sindane now has 8 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses from 13 fights.
In the main supporting bout Namibian lightweight champion Paulus Moses also took his professional record to 11 wins from 11 fights after knocking out South Africa?s Shadrack Montsho in the third round.
Moses also started slowly, stalking his opponent like a tiger, but by the second round he unleashed a flurry of blows that had Montsho in trouble.
Moses continued to stalk Montsho and wait for an opening, but when it came he was on him in a flash and sent him to the canvas with a hard right hand punch. Montsho managed to get up before the count of 8, but he was still unsteady and the referee counted him out on his feet.
While Moses is still unbeaten as a professional, Montsho now has 9 losses, 3 draws and 6 wins from 18 professional fights.
The results of other fights on the undercard were as follows:
South Africa?s Delta Mukuthi knocked Namibia?s Kanime Kanime out in the first round of their welterweight fight, to record his 10th win from 15 professional fights. Kanime now has a record of 6 wins and 6 losses.
