Two of the senior Brave Gladiators players, Stacy Naris and Zenatha Coleman, have been invited to play football for fifth league team Borussia Bocholt in the Westphalia region of Germany for a month.
The Namibia Football Association (NFA) technical director, Klaus Staerk made the announcement on Wednesday.
“Two players have been invited to a very nice football club were they will train and play for a period of four weeks and they will have the opportunity to learn from the club,” Staerk said.
“Stacy will also be working at the club and learning how clubs are run in Germany so that she can come back and use that knowledge here at the NFA were she is working as my secretary,” he added.
Naris, who is a left defender for the Brave Gladiators, said that she was very excited to have been selected to go to Germany.
“It will be a great opportunity for me to go to Germany and play for the club there, it can only make me a stronger player,” Naris said.
“It will help me to improve my skills and I will be an asset to the national team,” she added.
Staerk added that their time at the club would also serve as trials for the two players.
“If they impress the club they are going to or other clubs that will see them play they might be able to get contracts and they will be Namibia’s first female football exports.”
The two players will leave Namibia on August 11 and stay in Germany for four weeks.
Meanwhile, Staerk also officially launched the Galz and Goals Westphalia Godfathers programme.
The programme pairs 15 girls with a district in the Westphalia region in Germany and the girls will receive a monthly allowance from the regions to support them.
“All 15 of the Westphalia districts will participate in the programme and the NFA Women’s Desk selected the young girls who would take part,” Staerk said.
“Each of the girls will be receiving an amount of N$300 every month as support for the young girls to purchase schools supplies, football equipment or anything else they need,” he added.
“We will however not be giving the girls full amount every month, they will receive the money on request,” he continued.
The girls who were selected for the programme are:
Thomalina Adams, Jasmin Baas, Abrille Beaukes, Denise Burnie, Lee-Ann Cameldon, Esme Eises, Millicent Hikuam, Vitapamwe Kamahene, Cadisha Kazimbu, Annouscka Kordom, Anushka Meyer, Memory Ngonda, Marelle Poster, Chenieze Shrader and Celine Tjombe.
