DTS went back to the top of the log after beating Wanderers 6-0 in a Tafel Lager Indoor Hockey men?s Premier League match on February 28.
Aided by some great goalkeeping by Fanie Dorfling, Wanderers did well to restrict DTS? lead to 2-0 at halftime, but DTS turned up the tempo after the break to record a comfortable victory.
DTS took the lead in the 11th minute when Ralph Lumley fired home a rebound from a DTS short corner. After Randy Slabbert missed an open goal in the 15th minute, Steven Abel increased the lead a minute later from another DTS short corner.
With Sedric Makati and Steven Abel in great form, the chances kept on coming DTS? way and in the 18th minute Michael Steinbruck hit the post.
Just before the break DTS were awarded a penalty for obstruction, but Dorfling pulled off a great save to keep Makati?s shot out.
Darren Martin made the score 3-0 after receiving a long pass from Slabbert in the 27th minute, and seven minutes later Dorfling once again made fine saves to deny Martin and Slabbert.
DTS finally sealed the game with two quick goals midway through the second half. In the 34th minute Makati scored from Lumley?s short corner and barely a minute later Slabbert scored from open play to make the score 5-0.
In the 37th minute a quick counter attack by Steven Abel enabled Martin to score his second goal, to make the final score 6-0.
Despite the defeat, Wanderers continue to improve in the Premier League with Dorfling once again giving a stand out performance. Other players to shine were Terry Butcher, Francois Fuscher and Morne Kruger.
DTS have now replaced Unam at the top of the Premier League log, although the students have three games in hand. DTS lead with 17 points from 7 matches, while Unam have 15 points from four matches.
