Zambia beat the Seychelles 2-0 to win the Cosafa Castle Cup mini-tournament in Windhoek on Sunday July 23.
The victory puts them into the semifinals of the competition where they will meet Botswana, while Zimbabwe and Angola will meet in the other semifinal. In a rather dull final at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, Zambia were always in control while Seychelles never looked like threatening Zambiaâ??s goal.
Zambian winger Clive Hachilensa put in some good runs down the left flank early on, while a powerful shot by Mark Sinyangwe narrowly missed the mark in the 14th minute.
Zambia finally broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute when James Chamanga beat the defence to stab a cross into the net.
Zambia continued to attack with a cracking shot by Joseph Musonda hitting the post, before they went further ahead just before halftime. Ignatius Lwipa latched on to a high kick upfield to beat the Seychelles keeper Nelson Sopha from close range.
Zambia controlled the match in the second half with captain Christopher Kasondo putting in some good solo runs. In the 83rd minute Rainford Kalaba headed the ball into the net, but he was ruled offside.
With time running out Jonas Sakuhuwa nearly scored but Sopha pulled off a fine reflex save.
