Namibian boxing promoter Nestor Tobias and Namibia’s WBO African bantamweight champion Paulus Ambunda both received awards at the World Boxing Organisation’s 23rd Convention which recently took place in Cartagena, Colombia.
Tobias was named WBO Africa Promoter/Manager of the Year while Ambunda was honored as WBO African Boxer of the Year.
South African Andrew Smale, fourth vice-president on the WBO executive committee and the organization’s Africa representative, attended the convention and received the awards on behalf of Tobias and Ambunda.
The WBO also gave new world rankings for Ambunda and two other Namibian boxers, welterweight Bethuel Uushona and light heavyweight Vikapita Meroro.
Ambunda is ranked fourth amongst the WBO’s bantamweights, Uushona is ranked 7th in the world amongst the WBO’s welterweights and Meroro is ranked fifth in the world amongst the WBO’s light heavyweight boxers.
