Unam went to the top of the men?s Premier League log after beating Windhoek Old Boys Social Club (WOB) 5-2 in a Tafel Lager Indoor Hockey match on February 23, but they had to work hard to maintain their unbeaten record.
Heini Swartbooi gave Unam the lead after a quick counterattack, but WOB drew level in the 8th minute when Bucko Bartlett hit the ball high into the net.
WOB continued to pressurise and took the lead three minutes later when Thomas Duncan slammed home a rebound from Archie Botha?s short corner.
Unam couldn?t find their rhythm as WOB continued to attack in the first half. They nearly increased their lead in the 13th minute when Botha once again found the net from a short corner, but the goal was disallowed due to an earlier infringement.
Unam looked a different side after the break and a goal by Siabonga Martins soon drew them level. Unam continued to pressurise through several short corners, before Swartbooi finally gave them the lead in the 28th minute, hitting home a rebound from a short corner.
Two minutes later Botha nearly scored again for WOB but his shot was cleared off the line by Martins, and in the 31st minute Dunstan Haufiku scored a great goal to put Unam 4-2 in the lead.
WOB remained dangerous, with especially Bucko Bartlett and Archie Botha initiating several counter-attacks, but Unam had the final say as Joseph Kashamako scored a great goal from open play in the 36th minute.
Unam received an extra bonus point for scoring five goals, and have now replaced DTS at the top of the men?s Premier League log. Unam now have 15 points from 4 matches, followed by DTS (13 points from 6 matches) and Ramblers (8 points from 4 matches). WOB are second last on the log with 4 points from 4 matches. ? Namibia Sport
