Briedenhann and Cloete qualify for World Swimming Champs

Christine Briedenhann and Micaela Cloete last weekend qualified for the 10th World Short Course Swimming Championships that are due to be held in Dubai from 15 to 19 December.

This happened at the Namibia Swimming Union (NASU) Gala that took place at the Namibia Swimming Academy (NSA) pool from 3 to 4 September.

Briedenhann (14) set four new Namibian records for the 13 and 14 age group in 100m backstroke with a time of 1:09,88, the 50m butterfly with a time of 29:84, 100m freestyle with a time of 58:87 and the 50m freestyle with a time of 26,93.

Both of Briedenhann’s records in the freestyle are also records in the open category.

Cloete (14) set new Namibian records for the 13-14 age group in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:16,98, the 50m breaststroke in 34,84 and the 100m individual medley in 1:08,24.

Briedenhann and Cloete are part of a team that will leave for the 10th Senior African Championships that will be held in Casablanca, Morocco from 13-19 September.

Two other records were set at the gala. Gunter Cloete (10) set a new 10 and under age group record in the 50m freestyle with a time of 33,47 and Lushano Lamprecht (12) set a new 11 and 12 age group record in the 50m backstroke with a time of 34,75.

Katja Majewski set two new NASU records in the 100m breaststroke for the 10 and under age group with a time of 1:33,59 and she swam the 100m butterfly in 1:27,66.

Max Siedentopf, Daniela Lindemeier, Quinton Delie and Jonay Briedenhann were the other swimmers who already qualified for the world championships.
