Karas Football Elections called off

The Namibia Football Association on Sunday issued a statement expressing its disappointment with some members of the football family in the Karas Region who disrupted the Annual General Meeting that was held at Birds Mansion Hotel in Keetmanshoop on Saturday.

The meeting was also an elective meeting whereby the 21 members of the region had to vote in a new chairperson (President) of the executive committee, as the incumbent Harry Jahrs was acting since the resignation of Isaacs Fredericks in November.

The meeting failed to get to the business of voting since some club’s representatives were not those forwarded to the EXCO before the meeting and a roll-call could not be completed.

After some four hours of reasoning, the AGM could still not proceed as the clubs that defaulted on their representatives as per the Constitution of the NFA, refused to vacate the meeting room and thus the acting chairperson called the AGM off.

“The EXCO will now meet as per the NFA statues within two weeks to decide on the matter and within 30 days propose to the NFA Secretariat a new date for the elections as this is a constitutional matter on how we should do things” said Harry Jahrs.

With the contest for the NFA’s top-brass posts scheduled for October 3, football politics are gaining momentum, but the NFA is calling on members to respect the constitution that governs the game in the country.

The disruptive members of the meeting in the Karas Region are believed to have feared Jahrs taking over the chairperson’s position as he had support from 14 of the 21 members of the region.

The other contestants for the position are Petrus Hoffman and Joseph “KIllo” Isaacs.

The NFA will monitor the process and update the nation accordingly.

“In as much as the race for the NFA EXCO is hotting up, we have to respect the constitution and avoid FIFA coming in and we cannot allow the good standing we have with CAF, FIFA and other partners to be compromised” said NFA Secretary General Barry Rukoro.
