Zimbabwe beat Namibia 2-0 in a Senior Men’s encounter on Sunday, to wrap up the series after the two nations played to a goalless draw in their opening match on Saturday.
Zimbabwe were also the overall winners of the Momentum International Hockey Challenge after the won five of the seven age group categories that were contested between the two nations.
In the second encounter on Sunday, Zimbabwe put Namibia under pressure from the start as Nick Simpson and Doco Mukwewa both shot wide from early attacks.
Chances kept on coming Zimbabwe’s way as Pablo Dakarai flicked a spectacular shot inches over the net before Dakarai opened their account midway through the first half when he slammed home a loose ball in Namibia’s penalty area.
Namibia had to defend for most of the time and only won their first short corner on 24m after a counter attack by Siabonga Martins.
With Mukwewa a constant threat in midfield, Kaydee Nerukomo and Nick Simpson both came close to scoring.
Zimbabwe continued to pressurise Namibia after the break and only a spectacular save by Zebald Ndjarakana, when he cleared a shot by Joey Muchipi off the line, stopped a certain goal.
There was drama at the other end as well as Namibia won a short corner after a rare attack and Kavee Tjikuniva also had a shot cleared off the line.
But it was Zimbabwe who sealed their victory with a great goal by Mukwewa when he flicked home a centre into the box.
For Namibia, goalie DJ Strauss had a fine tournament, pulling off some great saves, while Ruben Engel, Ralph Lumley and Zebald Ndjarakana caught the eye in defence.
Joseph Kashamako, Penda Namundjebo and Billy Beukes tried hard in midfield, but their communication with their forwards let them down as the final passes often went astray.
