On day two of the Momentum International Hockey Challenge the Namibian Under 16 girls were the only victorious side among the home teams.
The young Namibians proved too much for the visitors, defeating the Zimbabwean B side 8-0, in a match where the score line did not reflect the tough game that played out.
Britta Haensel was the first to score for the Namibian girls as a result of a field goal that that came from a Larraine Brink cross. Haensel scored the second goal for Namibia five minutes later in the 11th minute.
Jocelle Deysel was the next one to put her name on the score sheet when she beat the Zimbabwean goalkeeper in the confusion that followed a penalty corner.
The fourth goal was on the board in the 21st minute, when Namibian Marian Laubscher scored a field goal to bring the total to 4-0.
With three minutes remaining in the first half, the Namibians had a shot at goal with a short corner taken by Laubscher, which went straight to Sune Wittman who quickly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to bring the total to 5-0.
Six minutes into the second half Laubscher notched up her second goal for the home side, while Haensel soon added her second goal to put Namibia 7-0 ahead.
Larraine Brink made what was possibly the goal of the game when she took a short corner in the 43rd minute, pushing the ball into play only to receive it back and send it into the goal for Namibia’s last goal.
In other matches on Saturday, the Namibian Under 18 boys lost 3-2 to the Zimbabwean B team. They then went on to lose by the same margin against the Zimbabwe A team.
In the first match against Zimbabwe B, Penda Nambala scored Namibia’s two goals and Ryan Cantle and Hilton Zuze shared the honors for Zimbabwe, with Zuze finding the net twice.
In the second match against the Zimbabwe A side, Nambala and Dewald Coetzee scored for Namibia. Dean Stonebridge, scored the first goal and Farai Chikumba scored the other two goals for Zimbabwe.
The Under 14 boys played to a goalless draw that saw both teams attempt to score but always either missing the goal or the goalkeepers saving the attempts.
The action will start at 08h00 on Sunday morning and will conclude with the Namibian senior men facing the Zimbabwean A side and the Namibian B team facing off against the Zimbabwean A side in a girls Under 14 match. Both matches will start at 12h00.
