Log leaders Reho Falcon will play at home against bottom placed Unam in an MTC Rugby Premier League Round 11 match on Saturday.
Falcons maintained their lead at the top of the log after they narrowly beat Mariental 30-29 in a close encounter in Mariental last weekend. This result brought their total points to 38 with seven wins to their name and only four losses.
Unam saw their faint hopes for the Premier League title disappear after losing their last five matches against Rehoboth, Western Suburbs, Mariental, Wanderers and United. They have lost eight matches in total and have 16 points to their name.
Despite their poor position, Unam have provided some strong competition to their opponents and they in fact beat Falcons 28-26 the last time the two teams met at the Unam Stadium.
Wanderers will play at home against the coastal-based Kudus who are coming from a 30-12 win over Rehoboth in Narraville. Wanderers beat Suburbs 39-37 at Suburbs on the same day.
Wanderers’ win put them on the same number of points with Falcons but are currently second due to an inferior points difference. Kudus on the other hand are seventh with 25 points.
The last time the teams met, Wanderers gave a good account of themselves to win 38-31 in Walvis Bay.
In another match this weekend, United will play against defending champions Rehoboth at Gemsbok Park in Olympia.
Rehoboth led the log for three weeks in the first half of the season but now find themselves fifth on the log.
United on the other hand have moved up two places to fourth after they came from behind to beat Unam 39-31 on Saturday. They now have 29 points to their name including nine bonus points with Rehoboth two points behind on 27.
In the first leg United lost 21-17 in Rehoboth, but will be confident of a win this time around to secure a top four finish.
Third placed Mariental will travel to Windhoek to play against Western Suburbs who are currently sixth on the log.
With both teams losing last weekend’s encounters they will be looking to this match to get back to winning ways.
Mariental had a brilliant start to their first year in the Premier League after they led the log for most of the first half of the season. Suburbs on the other have failed to find their footing this season hovering in the middle of the log for most of it.
In Round Five the teams were scheduled to play against each other but Suburbs forfeited the match when they refused to play the match in Stampriet after the Mariental Stadium had been booked for another event.
In first league matches, in the Western First League, CATS will play against Swakopmund while Dolphins face Swans.
In the Northern First league Polytechnic will play Tsumeb while Windhoek Rugby Club face Otjiwarongo.
In the Southern First League, Harlequins will face Desert Buffalos, while Keetmanshoop will play Rosh Pinah.
All matches will start at 15h00 on July 31.
