Rudi Louw will not be playing for African Stars when the 2010/2011 season starts in September. He revealed to Namibia Sport that he would be turning out for Black Africa.
Louw said he signed for Black Africa because of his family’s history with the team.
“Its my home team, since my father used to play soccer for them, while my mom played netball for them. I think I owe them something and I want to go back to play for Black Africa and make the people happy,” Louw said.
“The people at home and my family and the people who supported me throughout my career to play football – I just want to go back home and make them happy,” he continued.
Louw played a major role in Stars’ campaign during which they made history by becoming the first NPL club to win both the league and the cup in the same year.
He was the driving force in Stars’ league campaign, setting up numerous attacks with his penetrating runs from the midfield. He also scored the winning goal in their Leo NFA Cup final against Civics.
He won the Namibia Sport MTC Player of the Season award and was also nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season award alongside teammate Max Mbaeva and Tangeni Shipahu of Tigers. Mbaeva was the eventual winner.
Louw said there is a chance that he will join Angolan club Recreativo do Libolo later in the year if they offer him a contract. He was on trials there for two weeks in June.
“Bradley Wermann and I were on trials at Recreativo do Libolo in Angola. The coach liked us but they have too many foreigners. The coach said that he would give us a pre-contract so maybe we will go back in November or December,” Louw said.
Louw started his career at Ramblers and then moved to the coast to play for Blue Waters. He returned to Windhoek to join Civics and formed an integral part of the team that won the league title three years in a row.
He then joined Orlando Pirates before going to South African First Division outfit FC AK. After one season in South Africa he returned to join Civics again before finally ending up with African Stars.
