The Nestor “Sunshine” Tobias Boxing and fitness academy will host an amateur development tournament at the A Shipena School Hall on Thursday evening in Windhoek.
The tournament is aimed at preparing boxers who will be going to the Commonwealth Games in India later this year.
Nestor Tobias who is the owner and trainer at the Nestor “Sunshine” Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy said that they organised the event because they wanted to give the amateurs an opportunity to show the selectors what they can do so that they would be chosen to represent Namibia at the Commonwealth Games.
“We will not be selecting the boxers, we will just give them an opportunity to box and the people from the Boxing Federation will be there to see the fighters,” Tobias said.
“We have invited clubs from the whole country to take part in the tournament, and we expect a lot of fighters to attend,” he added.
Tobias said that only 10 clubs had so far confirmed their participation, namely eight from Windhoek, and the other two from Arandis and Swakopmund.
There will be 11 boxing categories that will be show cased at the tournament and a total of 15 bouts.
The tournament will take place at the Anna Shipena School Hall on Thursday June 10 at 19h00. Entrance will be free.
