The inaugural Africa Indoor Hockey Championships, which was supposed to be hosted in Walvis Bay from May 1 to 7 has been postponed till further notice.
The vice chairperson of the Namibia Hockey Union, Robert Offner told Namibia Sport that the tournament had to be postponed due to some â??logistical problems.â?
â??We didnâ??t receive the necessary feedback from the participating countries and the tournament had to be postponed. We will pursue the matter with the African Hockey union and hope to still host it by the end of August,â? he said.
Namibia Sport learned that only South Africaâ??s men and women and Zimbabweâ??s womenâ??s team had confirmed their participation by the entry deadline.
Egyptâ??s menâ??s team could not participate since it was involved in World Cup qualifiers, but there was no feedback from Africaâ??s other hockey playing countries, Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria.
Windhoek Nomads to SA Masters
Meanwhile, the Windhoek Nomads Masters hockey team left for East London, South Africa yesterday to participate in the South African Masters Tournament. It will be their third visit to the tournament where they have won seven out of ten matches.
The Namibian team's visit was made possible by sponsorships from Nashua Namibia, Larache Investments, Metropolitan Namibia and Falcon Safes.
