Profitt off to the Youth Olympics

Anica Profitt

Rhythmic gymnast Anica Profit has become the latest addition to the team going to the Youth Olympics in Singapore this August. She qualified at the African Gymnastics Championships in Walvis Bay in March, which also served as qualifier for the Youth Olympic Games.

The minimum requirement for qualifying was an execution mark of 30. Profitt had a mark of 30,20 with a score of 77,88. Profitt was seventh overall, out of 14 contenders, with the highest score of the Namibian gymnasts. She qualified for all four apparatus and achieved one bronze medal in the sticks apparatus. She had a fourth and two fifth place finishes in the other apparatus finals.

The 15-year-old is the only gymnast who will be going to Singapore after Michel’le Solomons, who had qualified for the Youth Olympics for trampoline, had to withdraw due to an anatomical back condition.

In preparation for the Olympics she will undergo a training plan to prepare for the event. Her coach Roumi Kostin said, “this is the biggest and most prestigious junior event for Namibia and we have a responsibility to approach the preparation professionally.”
