Namibia crashed to a 99-run defeat in their limited overs SAA Challenge match in Cape Town on Sunday.

Namibia won the toss and sent WP in to bat – a decision which immediately paid dividends. Norbert Manyande ran out Alistair Gray for 1, while Louis Klazinga dismissed Zahid Allie for a duck as WP crashed to 2/1.

When Craig Williams dismissed Martin Walters for 1, Namibia were firmly in command with the hosts struggling at 17/3.

WP were however let off the hook as Yasseen Vallie (43) and Romano Ramoo (41) came to Province’s rescue with a 70-run partnership.

Further down the order Moeneeb Abbas added 49, Peter Laing 23 and Chris Cooke 58 not out as WP 237/8 off their allotted 40 overs.

Christi Viljoen (2/37 off 8 overs) was Namibia’s best bowler, while Louis Klazinga took 2/45 and Craig Williams 2/43.

Namibia’s run chase got off to a great start as Ewald Steenkamp and Gerhard Rudolph put on 65 runs for the first wicket off only 11 overs.

Rudolph was dismissed for 32 off only 30 balls, Sarel Burger followed shortly after for 3 runs and when Steenkamp was out for 43, the slide began.

Namibia lost three wickets within eight balls to crash to 93/5 and from there on they could not recover.

Only Raymond van Schoor (14), Nicolaas Scholtz (14) and Louis Klazinga (13 not out) could reach double figures as the whole team was skittled out for 138 runs off only 31 overs.

Alistair Gray was WP’s best bowler taking 4/30 off 8 overs.
