DTS went to the top of the Indoor Hockey Men’s Premier League log after an exciting 4-2 victory against the X Team from Swakopmund on Saturday.
Darryn Martin gave DTS an early lead after only three minutes and Andre Stadler added a second to put them 2-0 ahead at halftime.
The X Team staged a great comeback as Liam Prosser scored two minutes after the restart, while Fabio Silheu equalised on 32m.
DTS however stepped up a gear and retained the lead a minute later through a goal by Leonard Fick, who added a second on 36m to complete their victory.
In an earlier match on Saturday, a hattrick by Tyrone Kotze gave the X Team a come from behind 3-2 victory against Wanderers.
Stefan du Preez put Wanderers ahead on 8m, but the X Team were soon on level terms when they won a penalty for a foul in the box and Kotze scored from the penalty spot.
The X Team took the lead just before halftime when Kotze scored from a short corner, while Kotze completed his hattrick on 28m when he slammed home a loose ball in the box.
Stefan du Preez pulled a goal back for Wanderers from a quick counterattack, and although Wanderers pushed hard for the equaliser, the X Team managed to hang on for their victory, with goalie Waldo Lassen pulling off a fine save from Ettienne de Villiers in the final minute.
DTS now lead the X Team on goal difference at the top of the log, while Wanderers still have to open their account. Unam and Windhoek Old Boys must still start their campaigns.
In the Women’s Premier League, Wanderers went to the top of the log after beating the X Team 2-1. Wanderers went ahead through goals by Madelyn Lessing and Juanne Louw, before Sumari Usher replied for the X Team.
Wanderers lead the Women’s Premier League log with three points, followed by the X Team and DTS on one point each. Unam and WOB must still open their accounts.
