Monique Marais was Namibiaâ??s top performer at the South African National Age Group Level Two Swimming Championships that took place in Newcastle, Kwazulu-Natal from March 7 â?? 11, 2006.
Competing against close to 800 swimmers from 108 southern African teams, the 15-year-old swimmer won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
Marais won a gold medal in the 200m breaststroke, a silver medal in the 50m butterfly and bronze medals in the 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley events.
Despite thunder storms, lightning and cold water, Namibiaâ??s other two swimmers at the championships, Benjamin Buckendorf and Christof van Zijl both did well and several personal best times and finals were swum.
Nambiaâ??s junior elite swimmers, Tuna Brock, Daniela Lindemeier, Marike Meyer, Byron Briedenhann, Quinton Delie, Tristan McDonald, Rory Schanknecht, Stefan van Zijl and Maximilian Siedentopf headed to East London on March 12 to compete at the SA Level 3 Prestige Championships, the most prestigious age group competition in southern Africa.
