Namibia 11th in Europe/Africa Group III
Submitted by editor on Wed, 05/22/2013 - 07:28.Namibia’s women’s tennis team came joint 11th out of 13 nations in the Europe / Africa Group III category of the Federations Cup.
The competition took place in Chisinau, Moldova from May 6 to 11.
The Namibian team of Riekie Honiball and Liniques Theron competed in Pool B where they lost both their matches 3-0 against Morocco and Denmark.
Namibia were comprehensively beaten by Denmark on May 8, with Maria Jespersen beating Theron 6-4, 6-2, while Mai Grage beat Honiball 6-0, 6-0.
Honiball and Theron lost their doubles match 6-0, 6-0 against Grage and Malou Edjesgaard.
Kohne wins second race in MB XC series
Submitted by editor on Wed, 05/22/2013 - 07:19.Heinrich Kohne notched up his second victory in the KIA Rock and Rut Mountain Bike Cross Country series when he won the second leg in Windhoek on Saturday.
Kohne led from the start to complete the five-lap 6,9km course in one hour 32 minutes 25 seconds, to finish more than four minutes ahead of Gerhard Mans who came second in 1:36:58.
Michael Pretorius, who won the Junior category, came third overall in 1:39:26, while Charl Fouche was the third-placed elite rider in 1:39:30.
NFA Partners GRN in AU Golden Jubilee
Submitted by editor on Tue, 05/21/2013 - 08:24.The Namibia Football Association (NFA) joins in the celebration of the African Union (AU) 50th Jubilee Celebration this weekend as they host Zambia with two international matches at the famous Sam Nujoma Stadium.
The African continent is celebrating 50 years of the OAU/AU’s formation and during this year’s Africa Day celebration, the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sports and Culture was nominated to chair the Cultural and Sports events.
'Fitness levels a disgrace' - Palmgren
Submitted by editor on Tue, 05/21/2013 - 07:58.Brave Warriors coach Roger Palmgren said Namibia’s players’ fitness levels were a disgrace when he announced the squad that will play Zambia in a friendly match at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday.
Palmgren said the fitness levels of the players needed to improve drastically.
“The players underwent a fitness test (by a biokineticist) at the end of March and the results were a disgrace. The fitness levels were not good enough and we will have to work on that,” he said.
Surprise winner at Fistball Indoor competition
Submitted by editor on Mon, 05/20/2013 - 19:29.There was a surprise winner at the Coastal Indoor Classic, Namibia’s only indoor fistball tournament on Saturday as the Under 18 national team unexpectedly took home the trophy at the event held at the SFC Sport complex in Swakopmund.
A total of nine teams from around the country participated in the tournament including teams from Atlantis SC in Walvis Bay, the SFC Sport Club, SKW, DTS, Cohen FC and two teams of the U18 national squad.
In a tightly contested final the reigning tournament champions and favourites for the event SKW took on the U18 national team.
