Duddy wins Senior Golf Champs

Barney Duddy won the Bank Windhoek 2012 Senior Golf Championship which took place at the Windhoek Country Club on May 25 and 26.

Duddy, who beat a total of 32 golfers to the prize, won the tournament with a total of 77 points.

Not only is he the overall champion but he is also first in the Over 70 category. He was followed by Gert Goosen in second place, while Johnny Adams came third. The over 80 champion was Wolfie Trossbach.

Bester doubtful for Nigeria

Brave Warriors attacking midfielder Rudolf Bester is a doubtful starter for Sunday’s World Cup qualifying match against Nigeria in Calabar.

Bester, who plays for South African Premier League champions Orlando Pirates, has been suffering from a thigh muscle injury and according to coach Bernard Kaanjuka it is doubtful whether he will play.

“Bester’s injury is serious. I don’t think he can play against Nigeria, but we will still wait and see,” he said.

Namibia qualify after no-show

Namibia automatically qualified for the World Youth Beach Volleyball Championships in July after none of the countries turned up for the African Championships which were due to start in Windhoek on Tuesday.

A total of seven countries were supposed to participate in the African Southern Zone Beach Volleyball Championships, namely the hosts Namibia, South Africa, Kenya, Madagascar, Seychelles, Uganda and Gabon.

National Sport Conference postponed

The National Sport Conference that was scheduled to take place next week has once again been postponed.

The Director of Sport in the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture Dr Vetumbuavi Veii told a press conference on Tuesday that the conference had been postponed because they had not informed the Namibian cabinet and therefore had not received its backing for the conference.
