Herunga, Mayova aim to go faster

Namibia’s speed queens Tjipekapora Herunga and Globine Mayova are confident of reaching even faster times this year as they prepare for more international events coming up this year.

Their coach Letu Hamhola said he hoped to send them to international athletics meetings in Europe, depending on finances, but they will definitely both be in action at the Africa Athletics Championships which take place in Benin from June 27 to July 1.

Herunga and Mayova have been in fantastic form at the South African Yellow Pages Series over the past two months, breaking number of records.

FIFA Football Seminar postponed

The 2012 FIFA Football Seminar that was scheduled for 19 May in Windhoek has been postponed due unforeseen circumstances.

The Seminar was set to bring several women football experts from the Eastern and Southern Africa regions as well as FIFA delegates to Windhoek for a period of three days.

Namibia also hosted a similar seminar before in 2006 which led to widespread recognition.

NNOC donates N$400 000 to Olympic athletes

The Namibia National Olympic Committee on Wednesday announced a further sponsorship of N$400 000 for Namibia’s athletes that have qualified for the Olympic Games.

The international federations of athletics, boxing, cycling and wrestling confirmed the qualification of boxers Mujandja Kasuto and Jonas Mattheus, mountain biker Marc Bassingthwaighte, athlete Tjipekapora Herunga and wrestler Sem Shilimela.
