Liberia beat Namibia 1-0 in the first leg of their Afcon 2013 qualifier in Monrovia on Wednesday afternoon.

Liberia striker Dioh Williams scored the winning goal on 67m to seal the victory and give Liberia a slight advantage ahead of the return leg encounter in Windhoek.

Namibia however gave a good performance, creating numerous chances, but poor finishing cost them dearly.

Rudolf Bester and Lazarus Kaimbi both missed good chances for Namibia in the first half, while Liberia’s Mamelodi Sundowns striker Anthony Laffor shot narrowly wide of the target just before halftime.

Namibia’s Under 20 national women’s soccer team, the Young Gladiators face an uphill battle when they take on Ghana in a return leg U20 World Cup qualifier on Saturday afternoon.

Ghana are assured passage to the next round after thrashing Namibia 7-0 in the first leg encounter in Accra two weeks ago, but Namibia will be playing for pride and will be going all out for victory.

Namibia however, has been struggling with injuries, while two key players - winger Thomalina Adams and defender Emma Naris - will also miss the match.

The Namibia Football Association referees development programme continues this week with the Youth Beginners Referees Course beginning on Wednesday.

The three-day course will see about 20 youth leagues coaches taken through the sessions on the laws of the game and the importance of physical fitness.

The NFA’s referees department confirmed that the course will be conducted by the German Football Association (DFB) Referees Instructor Matthias Eiles.
