Three records at Gala 2
Submitted by editor on Sat, 10/08/2011 - 16:05.Three Namibian age group records were established at the second gala of the 2011/12 season at the Western Suburbs Pool on Saturday.
Barend Lofty Eaton of Dolphins gave a great performance to set a new record of 39,56 seconds in the men’s 9-10 50m breaststroke category.
His winning time was nearly two seconds faster than the previous record of Mark Horne that was set more than 20 years ago.
In the girls’ 11-12 50m backstroke Zanre Oberholzer of NSA took more than a second off her own national record of 35,37 with a new mark of 33,93.
Promising performances at Gala 1
Submitted by editor on Sat, 10/08/2011 - 14:54.The first gala of the 2011/12 swimming season took place at the Western Suburbs pool on Saturday. Although no records were broken there were some promising performances for so early in the season.
Swimmers from Dolphins and Namib Swimming Academy in Windhoek as well as Swakopmund and Tsumeb participated in the gala.
In the Girls U8 category Heleni Stergiadis of Dolphins performed well. She won the 50m freestyle in 38,06 seconds, coming within two seconds of Zune Weber’s national record of 36,82.
