SKW signs new players for 2010/11 season
Submitted by newsdesk on Fri, 08/13/2010 - 09:51.Alfred Ndyenge will be one of the new signings at SKW ahead of the 2010/11 MTC Namibia Premier League (NPL) season, which is scheduled to start on September 11.
Ndyenge joined Civics after a stint with Swedish club Nordvarmlands FF and was recently called up to the Brave Warriors training squad.
Final assault by Suburbs
Submitted by editor on Fri, 08/13/2010 - 07:44.Western Suburbs will put up a last ditch effort to reach the MTC Rugby Premier League semi finals when they play their last match of the league against second placed Reho Falcon at Suburbs Park on Saturday afternoon.
Suburbs are currently fifth on the log with 32 points after they lost 39-16 against defending champions Rehoboth last weekend. They still have a mathematical chance of getting a fourth place finish if they beat Falcons with two bonus points and Rehoboth, who are fourth with 37 points, lose their next match and fail to get any bonus points.
Namibia v South Africa
Submitted by editor on Thu, 08/12/2010 - 18:40.The Namibian men’s inline hockey team will play South Africa in an IIHF World Championship qualifier on August 13 and 14 in Windhoek.
There will be two matches at the International Hall at the Show Grounds. Both matches will be played at 20h30 during the Badgers annual inline hockey tournament.
Namibia first played in the IIHF World Championships after they won the qualification series against South Africa in 2004.
FIFA Grassroots festival at Oshakati
Submitted by editor on Thu, 08/12/2010 - 10:12.Following the successful FIFA Grassroots Course and festival in Windhoek in April, a second leg of the Course will be held in Oshakati in November.
The Football Association has communicated to FIFA’s Development Officer Ashford Mamelodi, informing him of the FA’s commitment to grassroots football.
The program at Oshakati will run from 08 to 13 November with a football seminar for coaches’ and administrators, culminating in a football festival for kids on the final day.
Namibia climb four places on FIFA ranking
Submitted by newsdesk on Wed, 08/11/2010 - 09:26.Namibia was the biggest climbing African country on the FIFA/Coca Cola World Ranking released on 11 August. The Brave Warriors climbed four places to 115 from last month’s 119.
Namibia is now ranked 30 in Africa but remains eighth in the SADC region.
South Africa remains the highest ranked SADC nation with a world ranking of 66 and an African ranking of 12. Zambia are the second ranked SADC nation with a world ranking of 72 and an African ranking of 14.
2010 Cosafa Cup to be played in Angola
Submitted by newsdesk on Wed, 08/11/2010 - 08:29.2010 Africa Cup of Nations hosts Angola will host the Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup from 13 to 27 November.
The tournament will be played in the two cities of Lubango and Benguela, which hosted some of the AFCON matches in January.
At last year’s tournament Namibia lost 1-0 to Zambia in the quarterfinal stages in Zimbabwe. The hosts were the eventual winners of the cup.
Three nominations for NFA presidency
Submitted by editor on Tue, 08/10/2010 - 15:51.The Namibia Football Association on Tuesday announced that the nominations for its top-brass elections have been concluded.
The presidential elections, which will take place on October 2, will be contested by the incumbent John Muinjo, a former NFA vice president Viskaya Amutenya and former trade unionist and businessman Ranga Haikali.
For the position of vice president, three candidates will vie for the post namely, the current vice president Kornelius Kapenda, the chairman of the Namibia Premier League JJ Doeseb and Franz Mbidi from the Oshana region.
MTC NSC Sport Awards launched
Submitted by editor on Tue, 08/10/2010 - 14:08.MTC on Tuesday announced a sponsorship of N$350 000 for the 2010 MTC NSC Sport Awards which are scheduled to take place at the Safari Hotel on October 29, 2010.
The Chief Administrator of the Namibia Sport Commission, Rusten Mogane said that it was the seventh year that MTC had sponsored the Awards, which celebrated the achievements of Namibia’s athletes.
At the occasion, Mogane congratulated South Africa on its successful hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Metropolitan Schools reach semifinals stage
