WHS make it four in a row

Windhoek High School won the Metropolitan Boards Trophy for the fourth year in a row with an exciting 35-13 victory over Dr Lemmer of Rehoboth on Saturday evening. The match was still evenly poised at halftime with WHS leading 8-6, but WHS turned up the tempo in the second half, attacking from all corners of the field to run in five tries for a convincing victory.

Namibian teams find the going tough in hockey challenge

On day two of the Momentum International Hockey Challenge the Namibian Under 16 girls were the only victorious side among the home teams.

The young Namibians proved too much for the visitors, defeating the Zimbabwean B side 8-0, in a match where the score line did not reflect the tough game that played out.

Britta Haensel was the first to score for the Namibian girls as a result of a field goal that that came from a Larraine Brink cross. Haensel scored the second goal for Namibia five minutes later in the 11th minute.

Namibia and Zimbabwe battled it out to a goalless draw in the first encounter between their senior men’s sides in Windhoek on Saturday morning. Both sides created several scoring chances, while Zimbabwe had a shot cleared off the line, but in the end they had to settle for a share of the spoils.

Zimbabwe were the first to attack and forced four short corners in a row, but Namibia’s defence held out, with goalie DJ Strauss pulling off a good save.
