Reho Falcon went to the top of the MTC Rugby Premier League log after beating Western Suburbs 43-26 in an entertaining match at Suburbs Park on Saturday. Falcons ran in six tries, with flyhalf Jacky Bok and centre Attie du Plessis each scoring a brace, while fullback Howard Titus added 13 points with the boot.

Suburbs were still in with a shout as they trailed 21-18 shortly after halftime, but Falcons turned on the style with some attacking rugby which saw them running out comfortable victors.

Windhoek Old Boys (WOB) men and women’s hockey teams won their matches in the Hockey Premier League this weekend. The WOB women’s team beat Unam 5-0 and the men beat DTS 2-1 at the Doc Jubber Hockey Fields on Saturday 14 August.

In the women’s match Marcia Venter scored four of the five goals for WOB. She started her onslaught in the 24th minute after she was one on one with the Unam goalkeeper Hitji Tjingaete. Venter was too fast for Tjingaete who was sent the wrong way as the ball went to the bottom corner of the goal.

South Africa took a narrow lead in their Inline Hockey World Cup qualifying tournament after beating Namibia 3-2 at the Windhoek Showgrounds on Friday evening. South Africa streaked into a 3-0 lead by the second quarter, but Namibia staged a great comeback, taking control of the game in the final two quarters. Namibia created countless scoring opportunities but struggled to find a way past South Africa’s huge goalkeeper, Ashley Bock, and will now go into Saturday evening’s final qualifying match with a one goal deficit.
