Nuumbembe to fight Nekhubi

Ali Nuumbembe

Ali Nuumbembe will now defend his WBA African welterweight title against Jerry Nekhubi of South Africa on Friday night, after his previous opponent, Boitshepo Mandawe pulled out of the fight.

According to Namibian boxing promoter Nestor Tobias, Mandawe “chickened out of the fight,” but he managed to find a suitable opponent in Nekhubi at short notice.

Tobias also said that Nekhubi would be a better opponent since he was rated higher by the World Boxing Organisation.

Venue problems surface in Leo NFA Cup

The Namibia Football Association will go ahead with the Khomasdal Stadium as the venue for Leo NFA Cup quarterfinal matches on Thursday and Friday, but will limit ticket sales to 2 000 people per match to avoid crowd congestion.

African Stars executive member Brian Makari expressed reservations about the Khomasdal Stadium as a suitable venue in a local daily on Wednesday, citing its limited space and lack of security facilities.
