Rio Tinto Rossing Marathon Championships

The Rio Tinto Rossing Marathon Championships, organised by Swakop Striders, will take place for the 19th consecutive year in Swakopmund on Saturday, 20 February.

In its continuous bid to support the event, Rio Tinto Rossing Uranium has significantly increased the prize money from previous years. This year a total of N$60 000 in prize money will be available with the men and women’s marathon winners each receiving N$10 000.

Big turnout expected for Nedbank Cycle Challenge

More than a thousand cyclists are expected to take to the streets of Windhoek on Sunday, 14 February, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Nedbank Cycle Challenge.

The first “Swabank Cycle Tour”, as it was known at the time, attracted 84 registered participants in 1986, which prompted the then-chairman of the organising committee, Claus Theissen, to comment: “This overwhelming support has put cycling for sport and recreation firmly into the minds of all Windhoekers”.

Tough draw for African Stars

Defending league champions African Stars received a tough draw against Tigers when the draw for the last 32 teams in the Leo NFA Cup competition was made at the NFA Soccer House on Tuesday.

The final 32 teams in the lucrative competition will battle it out in knockout matches in Windhoek, Walvis Bay and Otjiwarongo on March 5 to 7.
