Civics beat Pirates

Civics got their title aspirations back on track with a hard fought 1-0 victory against Orlando Pirates on Friday, November 9.

In a fast-paced game, Civics dominated the first half and created several early chances with a Tugela Tuyeni cracker just wide, while Brian Brendell headed wide.

Griquas beat Namibia by 149 runs

Griqualand West beat Namibia by 149 runs to win their three-day SAA Challenge match at the Wanderers field on Saturday.
Set a huge total of 422 for victory, Namibiaâ??s tail end crumbled, and despite a fine century by Gerrie Snyman, they were all out for 273 runs to give Griquas a comfortable victory.

Griquas turn on the pressure

Griquas tightened the screws on Namibia on the second day of their SAA Challenge match at Windhoekâ??s Wanderers field on Friday, November 9.

After lunch on the second day, Griquas had reached 203/5 for an overall lead of 282 runs. With Adrian McLaren in full flight on 98 not out and five second innings wickets remaining, they were in a strong position to win the match.

Old Mutual awards Victory Races winners

Reinhold Iita and Helaria Johannes were officially announced as the 2007 Old Mutual Victory Races champions on November 7 at a breakfast function hosted by Old Mutual on November 7.

Both athletes have dominated the event over the past few years, with Iita winning the senior menâ??s category for the second year in a row and for the fourth time over the past five years, while Johannes won the title for the third year in a row.

Tigers beat Stars 3-2

Tigers secured their first victory of the season after beating African Stars 3-2 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Wednesday night.

Stars did most of the early attacking but it was Tigers who took the lead against the run of play. Tangeni Shipahu raced onto a long upfield clearance and stabbed the ball past the onrushing Ecresol Kongoro into Starsâ?? net.

Lofty-Eaton is wrestler of the year

Martin Lofty Eaton won the Wrestler of the Year award at the Namibian Wrestling Federationâ??s annual prize giving function on November 3.

It was the second year in a row that Lofty Eaton had won the award, thereby becoming the first Namibian wrestler to win the trophy for two consecutive years.

FC AK go second

Namibian footballers in South Africa put in some good performances over the weekend.
In the Mvela League Inland Stream division, AK FC beat Winners Park 1-0 to move up to second position on the log.
