The Southern Spears beat a Namibian Invitation team 32-13 in a highly charged match at the Hage Geingob Rugby Stadium on March 31.
After beating a Namibian XV 59-31 on March 25, the Spears were stung by criticism from Namibiaâ??s coach Johan Venter, who said the Eastern Province franchise would struggle in the Super 14 competition since it was basically a Namibian third team that they had beaten.

The 10th annual Coca Cola Frank Frederick Invitational Meeting on April 9 this year will have a number of extras for athletes and spectators. The theme of this years meeting is â??celebrating ten years of athletics excellence.â?

At the time of writing this column, Namibia had won two medals at the Commonwealth Games through boxer Jafet Uutoni and shottist Friedhelm Sack.
Uutoni was in explosive form as he beat Englandâ??s Darran Langley in the light flyweight final to win a gold medal for his country, while Sack won a bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol category.

The heart swells with pride when the Namibian flag flutters on an Australian night-time breeze in distant Melbourne. The shiny smiling faces of our athletes are broadcast to living rooms around the world, while at home we grin with a sense of achievement as our colours pass before cheering crowds and flashing cameras.

The first few weeks of the 2006 rugby season pleasantly surprised with the skill level of some players, but also showed a lack of fitness among many others.
â??Fear not,â? says Johan Venter, recently appointed national team coach. â??I am actually happy that the players are not yet at their peak. If we peak now for the Southern Spears games, what will we do against Tunisia, Kenya and maybe later against Morocco?â? he asks.

Namibiaâ??s performance at last monthâ??s Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia was well below its record six medals won in Manchester, England in 2002.
At the time of writing, with the Games still in progress, Namibia had won two medals through shottist Friedhelm Sack and boxer Jafet Uutoni.

Unam dominated the Coastal Indoor Hockey Tournament at Walvis Bay over the weekend with four of their teams progressing to the men and womenâ??s finals.
Unamâ??s second team, Pepsi Unam caused a major upset by beating their first team, Unam Giants 3-2 in the final to win the menâ??s trophy.

Newly-established Golden Cheetahs Club was the top club at the Coca Cola Top Ten Club Championships in Windhoek on March 24.
Cheetahs was formed at the beginning of the year, with most of its members coming from Unam Athletics Club, which died down last year.

The Senior Namibian Inline Hockey squad will be attending the IIHF Inline Hockey World Championships to be held in Hungary from 8 â?? 16 July of this year. This will be the second time Namibia will partake in this international event, after qualifying last year by securing victory over Chinese Taipei and winning the acclaimed Fair Play trophy. In preparation for this yearâ??s championship, Namibian players have undergone numerous high intensity-training camps that have occurred throughout the year with participants coming from all over Namibia and players working and studying in South Africa.
