Shilimela receives birthday surprise
Submitted by editor on Tue, 08/14/2012 - 17:52.Namibia’s Olympic wrestler Sem Shilimela got a big surprise when he returned home on Tuesday, as some of his Namibian supporters welcomed him back at the Hosea Kutako International Airport with a birthday cake.
The Namibian Olympic team received a subdued welcome with not many people turning up to welcome them back, but Shilimela was an exception as about 15 friends from the After School Centre Wrestling Club in Khomasdal turned up to welcome him back with a beautiful cake that they baked for his 21st birthday.
Tjongarero calls athletes to account
Submitted by editor on Tue, 08/14/2012 - 16:49.The president of the Namibia National Olympic Committee, Agnes Tjongarero could not hide her disappointment with Namibia’s performance at the Olympic Games, and called on the athletes to account why they did not win any medals.
Speaking on the team’s arrival back in Namibia at the Hosea Kutako International Airport, Tjongarero said they did all they could to help the team financially.
Namibia crash against SA, Sri Lanka
Submitted by editor on Tue, 08/14/2012 - 15:05.Namibia got off to a poor start in the Under 19 Cricket World Cup as they suffered heavy defeats in their opening two matches.
On Monday, Sri Lanka beat Namibia by 195 runs and on Tuesday South Africa thrashed them by 209 runs.
In Tuesday’s match, played at the Peter Burge Oval in Brisbane, South Africa got off to a great start as both their openers scored centuries.
Chad Bowes and Quinton de Kock raced along at more than six runs per over, and when Andre Engelbrecht finally bowled Bowes for 115, the total was already on 212 after only 32 overs.
