Betuel ‘Tyson’ Ushona is confident that he will beat Denton Vassel to win the Commonwealth welterweight title on Saturday night.

Ushona, who arrived in England earlier this week, met his opponent at a press conference in London on Thursday for the first time. He told Namibia Sport that he felt confident and was looking forward to the fight.

“He looked at me so strange, but I made him feel like he is the challenger. To me this is nothing and I am used to this game,” he said.

Eagles hang on for a win

The South Western Districts Eagles started like a house on fire but eventually hung on for a 34-27 (halftime 22-20) Vodacom Cup win over Namibia’s Welwitschias at Outeniqua Park in George on Friday night.

There was plenty of action for the 800-strong crowd with the match resembling a basketball game at times, with interceptions aplenty and each team taking turns at scoring points before handing the ball back to a grateful opposition.
