Wanderers returned to the summit of Namibian rugby when they beat Rehoboth 35-22 to win the MTC Premier League rugby trophy on Saturday.

In a titanic battle at the Hage Geingob National Rugby Stadium, the match was still wide open when Rehoboth held a 22-21 lead midway through the second half. But Wanderers attacked relentlessly and tries by Alberto Engelbrecht and PJ van Lill in the final 10 minutes saw them easing to victory.

The ICC Intercontinental Shield match between Namibia and Uganda was evenly poised at the end of the first day’s play with Uganda all out for 329 runs. Lawrence Sematimba was Uganda’s stand out batsman scoring 106 from 136 balls, while Craig Williams was Namibia’s top bowler, taking 5/90 off 22 overs.

Namibia’s decision to send Uganda in to bat soon paid dividends as Louis Klazinga clean bowled Roger Mukasa for two with the total on 15.
