Mauritania withdraws from AFCON qualifiers
Submitted by newsdesk on Mon, 08/23/2010 - 07:42.Mauritania has withdrawn from the Gabon-Equatorial Guinea 2012 Orange Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced.
Mauritania was in Group F, which also included Namibia, Gambia and Burkina Faso. Namibia was due to play Mauritania on October 9 in Windhoek.
According to www.cafonline.com, the General Secretary of the CAF, Mustapha Fahmy said, “We have just been informed by the Mauritania Football Federation of the withdrawal of its national team from the qualifiers of the Orange CAN 2010 qualifiers.”
Zimbabwe beat Namibia 2-0
Submitted by editor on Mon, 08/23/2010 - 00:07.Zimbabwe beat Namibia 2-0 in a Senior Men’s encounter on Sunday, to wrap up the series after the two nations played to a goalless draw in their opening match on Saturday.
Zimbabwe were also the overall winners of the Momentum International Hockey Challenge after the won five of the seven age group categories that were contested between the two nations.
In the second encounter on Sunday, Zimbabwe put Namibia under pressure from the start as Nick Simpson and Doco Mukwewa both shot wide from early attacks.
