Argentina in ominous form

Nigeria fans

Argentina looked in ominous form as they beat South Korea 4-1 in Johannesburg on Thursday to book their place in the second round. Striker Gonzalo Higuain scored the first hattrick of the tournament, but it was the brilliant play of Carlos Teves and Lionel Messi that cut South Korea’s defence to shreds.

Argentina took the lead on 17m when Messi whipped in a freekick that was headed into his own net by South Korea’s Chu Young Park.

Teves came close with a scorching freekick that skimmed the upright before Higuain made it 2-0 when he headed in from close on 33m.
