Namibia let North West off the hook on the opening day of their CSA Challenge match in Potchefstroom on Thursday and at stumps the honours were quite even. After being in deep trouble at 5/31 and then 7/97, North West staged a fine comeback before they were all out for 194. At stumps Namibia had reached 157/5 – still 37 runs behind with five first innings wickets in hand.

Namibia won the toss and elected to field – a decision which soon reaped dividends as Christie Viljoen dismissed Johan Mostert for 5 with the total on 9.

Namibian athletes shine at SA Champs

Namibian athletes

Namibian athletes gave some exceptional performances at the South African Athletics Championships in Durban last weekend. Since Namibia’s four athletes, Tjipekapora Herunga, Hitjiverue Kaanjuka, Roger Haitengi and Daniel Nghipandulwa competed as foreigners none of them came into consideration for medals, but that did not stop them from delivering top class performances against South Africa’s best athletes.

Brave Warriors strike defused

The Brave Warriors’ preparations for Saturday’s CHAN Cup match against Seychelles hit a snag on Wednesday when the players went on strike over unpaid money from their Independence Celebrations match against Botswana. According to a source, the players were promised that they would each receive N$3 000 by Friday from the government. The Namibia Football Association normally pays the players, but since the government requested the Brave Warriors to play the match, they agreed to foot the bill.
