Four players from the Namibian U14 girls’ soccer team have been selected to an African Youth XI at the Norway Cup soccer tournament in Oslo. Emma Naris and Anuschka Meyer from A I Steenkamp school, Heidi Kebbel from Delta School Windhoek, currently playing for the SKW Youth Academy and Abrille Beukes from St. Georges School made it into the Africa Youth XI.
The African Youth team was supposed to play against a European Youth team, but the match was cancelled due to the rainy conditions. The team however received official recognition and was announced as the best African team.
Sebastian Richter of Germany continued his giant killing run when he beat South Africa’s Hernus Pieters 6-4, 6-3 in the Boys U18 singles final at the ITF South and Central African Junior Tennis Tournament in Windhoek on Friday. The 12th seeded Richter was more consistent and regularly won points with his solid shots from the baseline. Pieters, on the other hand, was a bit erratic and made too many unforced errors. Pieters displayed a powerful first serve, but his net play let him down, as he regularly sprayed smashes and volleys out of court.
