Naitembu wins Eenhana Road Race

Johanes Naitembu produced fireworks during the 21km road race that was sponsored by Standard Bank at Eenhana on the March 21. Naitembu won the event in a great time of 1 hour 5 minutes 11 seconds, finishing well ahead of former 21km champion Frans Hosea (1:06:47).

Vilho Paulus came third in 1:07:17, followed by Embashu Pinehas (1:09:23) and Daniel Nghipandulwa, who also won the Junior Men’s category in 1:10:58.
Jesaya Mathews came second in the Junior Men’s category in 1:20:07, followed by Lavinia Haitope, who also won the Junior Women’s category in 1:21:17.

Two Namibian records at Waterski Champs

Meike Rubbow and Volker Schulz set new Namibian records in the slalom competition in the open women en senior men II divisions respectively at the Hollard Namibia National Waterski Championships over the weekend. The competition, which was well organised and took place in perfect weather conditions, saw nine junior personal best performances being achieved.

Kai Brockmann, Kyron Sprake, Jana Kiesewetter, Jolynde Aucamp, Jeane Kamfer, Devon Sprake, Sylvia Schmidt, Marco Kiesewetter and Wico Coetzee all established new personal best performances.

Suburbs off to a winning start

Defending champions Western Suburbs got off to a winning start by beating Unam 28-3 in an MTC Premier League rugby match on Friday night. Suburbs ran in four tries to obtain a bonus point which puts them at the top of the log.
Left wing McGrath van Wyk scored two tries and right wing Wax Feris and eighthman Brendan Walters one each, while Van Wyk also added four conversions for a personal tally of 18 points.

The match also saw the long awaited return of centre Roger Thompson who had been banned for two years by the International Rugby Board after using a banned substance.
