Stars beat Pirates and go top

A 63rd minute goals by Harold Kazerua gave African Stars a 1-0 victory over Orlando Pirates in front of 6 000 fans at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium on Friday evening. The victory put Stars at the top of the log for the first time this season while it was also the defending champions Pirates’ first defeat of the season.

Dolphins in the lead

Dolphins Swimming Club was leading the team scores after the second session of the National Swimming Championships in Windhoek on Friday. Dolphins was leading the combined team scores with 574 points, followed by the Namib Swimming Academy on 477, Oranjemund Sand Sharks on 77, Marlins Swimming Club on 75 and Swakopmund Swimming Club on 60 points.

Dolphins was also leading the women’s rankings with 251 points, followed by NSA (187) and Marlins (57), while Dolphins was leading the Men’s rankings with 323 points followed by NSA (290) and Swakopmund (43).

National Swimming Champs start

The Namibia National Swimming Championships got underway at the Olympia Pool on Thursday with some of the long distance events. Only four events were held on Thursday, namely the 200m butterfly and 800m freestyle events for men and women. No records were established, while the winning times were quite a way off the national record times.

Byron Briedenhann and Jonay Briedenhann of the Namibia Swimming Academy (NSA) won the 200m butterfly events, while Tristan McDonald (NSA) and Christine Minders (Dolphins) won the 800m events for men and women respectively.
