Ngatjizeko wins Player of the Season award
Submitted by editor on Tue, 07/29/2008 - 22:29.Civics defender-cum-midfielder Jamu Ngatjizeko won the MTC Player of the Year award at the NFA’s annual awards ceremony on Tuesday night.
Ngatjizeko, who had a great season for the Brave Warriors as well as Civics, who finished second in the league, won the award ahead of the other nominees, Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Athiel Mbaha and Ramblers striker John Samson.
About 200 people attended the awards ceremony at the National Theatre of Namibia, which was quite controversial, to say the least.
Players not guilty of drunken behaviour
Submitted by editor on Tue, 07/29/2008 - 16:57.The Namibia Football Association has issued a statement absolving all players or officials of any blame following an alleged drinking spree at their hotel in Witbank on Saturday evening.
Kickoff website reported that drunk Namibia players went on the rampage in Witbank on Saturday night, trashing a room at their hotel and causing damage estimated at R5 000.
42 records at short course gala
Submitted by editor on Tue, 07/29/2008 - 13:57.There were some outstanding performances at the second short course gala of the season on July 18 to 20 when a total of 42 new national age group records were established.
Christine Briedenhann and Rory Buck, both of the Namibia Swimming Academy, led the way with six records each, while Quinrton Delie of Dolphins Swimming Club produced five records.
Sean Peens and Jean Paul Burger, both of Dolphins, each established four records, while Zanre Oberholzer (NSA), Emile Majewski (Dolphins) and Alex Skinner (Dolphins) each established three records.
South Africans dominate
Submitted by editor on Tue, 07/29/2008 - 11:54.South African players dominated proceedings on Tuesday in the boys singles category at the ITF Junior Circuit South and Central African Championships in Windhoek.
With six of the seven third round matches completed, South African players had secured six of the seven quarterfinal berths.
The top seeded Nikala Scholtz was too strong for the 15th seeded Benjamin Lock of Zimbabwe, wearing him down with his strong serves to win the match 6-4, 6-2.
Scholtz will now meet compatriot and seventh seed Renier Moolman who beat Alexander Voitov of South Africa 6-0, 6-1.
