Namibian boxers prepare for Olympic showdown

Namibiaâ??s top amateur boxers will have a great chance of qualifying for this yearâ??s Olympic Games when Namibia hosts the final African qualifying tournament in Windhoek from March 22 to 31.

Namibia nearly didnâ??t stage the event after an administrative gaffe by the Namibia Amateur Boxing Federation (NABF) led to a tense stand-off between itself and the Namibia Sport Commission (NSC).

Gerrie Snyman rewrites the record books

Namibian cricketer Gerrie Snyman has been in tremendous form over the past few months, producing some of the most devastating batting yet seen in Namibia and abroad.

In the process he entered the record books with two brilliant knocks, the first being his innings of 196 against the United Arab Emirates in Windhoek in December 2007 and the second being his innings of 230 against Kenya in Dubai at the end of January.

After a disastrous start to the African Cup of Nations, Namibiaâ??s Brave Warriors redeemed themselves with courageous performances in their final two matches. After losing 5-1 to Morocco, they stunned the host nation with a battling performance before losing 1-0, and then drew 1-all against Guinea in their final match.
