Snyman smashes Namibia to victory

A brilliant double century by Gerrie Snyman gave Namibia a remarkable 101-run victory over Kenya on Thursday, which saw them moving to the top of the ICC Inter-Continental Cup log for the first time.

Uutoni qualifies for Olympic Games

Japhet Uutoni qualified for the Olympic Games when he reached the final of the 48kg bantamweight division at the first AIBA African Olympic Qualifying tournament in Algeria on January 27.

Uutoni won his opening two bouts on points to qualify for the final of the bantamweight division, which has assured him a place at the Olympic Games. Whatever the outcome of the final might be, Uutoni has already booked his ticket to Beijing, since the gold and silver medallists qualify for the Olympic Games.

Nuumbembe returns to Namibia

Namibiaâ??s former Commonwealth welterweight champion Ali Nuumbembe plans to resurrect his boxing career in Namibia after recently returning to his homeland.

Nuumbembe won the Commonwealth welterweight title when he beat Kevin Anderson on points in February 2007. But he lost his first title defence in controversial fashion against Craig Watson of England in December, when he suffered a bad cut over his eye and the referee stopped the fight.

Namibia, Guinea draw

Namibiaâ??s campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations came to an end when they drew 1-1 against Guinea in Sekondi on Monday night.
The result saw Guinea and Ghana â?? who beat Morocco 2-0 in Accra at the same time - qualify for the quarterfinals, but the Brave Warriors can hold their heads high after an inspired display.

Invincible win Hansa Cup Khomas play-offs

Invincible Football Club advanced to the second round of the Hansa Cup competition after wining the Khomas regional play-offs in Windhoek on Sunday, January 27.
Invincible beat Impala Chiefs 3-0 in Sundayâ??s final with all three goals coming late in the match.

Botha hattrick gives WOB victory

Windhoek Old Boys started the new season off on a winning note when they beat DTS 3-2 in an Indoor Hockey Menâ??s Premier League match on Saturday, January 26.

Archie Botha scored all three goals from short corners, where he combined well with veteran captain Trevor Cormack. But WOB left their revival late and only got the winning goal in the last minute of the match.

Namibians offered bribes to throw Guinea match

The BBC reported that Namibian players have claimed they were approached to fix their final group match at the Africa Cup of Nations.
They say they were offered US$30,000 per player to throw their game against Guinea in Sekondi on Monday.

Hosea, Johannes win Chevron Road Race

The annual Chevron 10km Road Race was presented by Windhoek Harriers on
Saturday, 26 January and contested by 90 athletes competing in walking and running events.

In the senior menâ??s running category, Frans Hosea proved to be too strong for his elite opponents and won the event in 31 min 24 sec followed closely by Johannes Naitembu (31 min 37 sec) and Tomas David (32 min 29 sec).

Burger bowls Namibia to victory

Namibia claimed a hard-fought 40-run win in their Intercontinental Cup clash against UAE in Sharjah with Jan-Berrie Burger taking a career-best 5 for 81 after a brave innings from Khurram Khan had kept UAE's hopes alive.

Namibian revival against UAE

Namibia ended the third day of their Intercontinental Cup tie against UAE in Sharjah in a commanding position after reducing the home side to 44 for 2 after setting them a target of 337.

Namibia, who fought back well yesterday after conceding a first-innings lead of 60, started on 164 for 3 and soon lost Dawid Botha, their Under-19 captain, shortly after he had completed his hundred. When Louis Botha followed with the score on 207, Namibia were five down and only 147 ahead.
