NSC premises inaugurated

The Namibia Sport Commissionâ??s new premises in Omuramba road, Eros was officially inaugurated in front of about 50 guests on Tuesday, December 11.
The chairperson of the NSC, Stanley Simaata said it was a milestone in the history of the NSC.

Malawi claim final semifinal spot

Malawi claimed the final semifinal spot at the Cosafa U17 Soccer Championships when they beat Lesotho 4-0 on Tuesday, December 11.

Malawi dominated the match from the start, launching most of their attacks through their left wingback Mphatso Ngwira, but their strikers were out of touch in the first half, with Andy Simukonda wasting at least three clear chances.

Namibian swimmers shine in Pretoria

Ten Namibian swimmers left a deep impression at the Northern Tigers Provincial Swimming Championships, held in Pretoriaâ??s Hillcrest Swimming Pool on December 8, swimming past heats into 22 finals and winning seven gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal.

Sterk wins Swakop Half Iron

Nico Sterk of South Africa was the overall winner of the Swakop Half Iron Triathlon that took place at Swakopmund on Saturday, December 8.

It was the second successive year that he had won the title and his decision to train in Swakopmund a week before the event certainly paid off as he finished well ahead of the participants. Sterk completed the 1,9km swim, 90km cycle and 21km run in a time of 4 hours 18 minutes and 9 seconds, to finish more than half an hour ahead of the the rest of the field.

Zambia thrash Botswana

Zambia thrashed Botswana 8-0 on Monday, December 10, to make sure of a semifinal spot in the Cosafa U17 soccer tournament.

After Malawi beat Botswana 6-1 the previous day, Zambia had to beat Botswana by five clear goals to make sure of a semifinal spot and they left nothing to chance as they raced into a 5-0 lead at halftime.

Malawi went to the top of Group B at the Cosafa U17 soccer tournament after a great 6-1 victory against Botswana at the Khomasdal Stadium on December 9.

Malawiâ??s stocky striker Rafik Mussa scored a hattrick as they outplayed Botswana from the start.

Watson cuts down Nuumbembe

Craig Watson claimed the Commonwealth welterweight title in Wigan after Namibian Ali Nuumbembe was stopped on cuts in round nine.

The turning point came in the third round when a horrible clash of heads left Nuumbembe nursing a deep gash above his left eye.

The Desert Dash â?? to the limit

One of the most extreme sporting events in the world, the Desert Logistics Desert Dash, takes place for the third successive year next Friday, December 14.

The Desert Dash is a 24-hour mountain bike ride from Windhoek to Swakopmund, covering a total distance of 340km, and according to event organiser Aidan de Lange, it is probably the longest MB marathon in the world.

South Africa thrash Lesotho

South Africa got off to a great start in the Cosafa Under 17 tournament on Saturday, beating Lesotho 5-0 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

Lesothoâ??s defence managed to hold out until halftime, but the floodgates opened in the second half as South Africa scored five goals without reply.

Civics slump to third defeat

Defending champions Civics crashed to their third defeat of the season when African Stars beat them 2-0 at the Ramblers field on Saturday.

Civics had their chances, but Brian Brendell and Patrick Mkontwana wasted good opportunities and it was Stars who took the lead in the 26th minute. Steve Tjeenao sent in a cross and Ninja Karongee chipped it over Esau Tjiouro into an empty net.
