Samaria qualifies for 1 500m final

Namibiaâ??s Agnes Samaria qualified for the final of the womenâ??s 1500m at the World Athletics Championships after coming fourth in her semifinal heat on Friday, August 31.
In a tight finish to the race, the first five athletes all finished within a second of each other, but Samaria managed to qualify for the final after finishing fourth in a time of 4:15,36.

Under 17 Khomas Football League

The Under 17 Khomas League is reaching its end with seven matches remaining for most teams in Stream A and Stream B.
Collin Benjamin Soccer Academy (CBSA) have taken a commanding lead in Stream A with 42 points from 15 matches, well ahead of Shandumbala who are on 36 points from 15 matches. Both teams have only lost one match, but CBSA have won 14 matches, compared to Shandumbalaâ??s 11 wins and three draws.

Cosafa Shock as Castle withdraws sponsorship

The future of the regional Confederation of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup is in limbo following the withdrawal of an 11-year-old sponsorship from brewing conglomerate SAB Miller under its Castle Lager Brand. South Africa Brewers announced on July 30 that it would not renew its sponsorship of the regional soccer tournament after it reaches its climax in October this year.

France, here we come!

Namibiaâ??s national rugby team, the Welwitschias, will be going to their third consecutive World Cup after wining their African qualifying tournament last year.

Namibia had a shaky qualifying campaign, starting with a record win against Kenya, but then losing away to Tunisia and Kenya.

Samaria through to 1 500m semifinals

Namibiaâ??s Agnes Samaria qualified for the semifinals of the womenâ??s 1500m at the World Athletics Championships when she came third in her first round heat on Wednesday, August 29.

Samaria finished her heat in a time of 4:10,96, which was just behind the winner, Yelena Soboleva of Russia (4:10,45) and Treniere Clement of the United States (4:10,85).

Shiyuka to stay on at Civics

Retired footballer Amos Shiyuka, who led Civics to an unprecedented third title in a row last season, is to stay on at the Bethlehem Boys in a new role.

Civicsâ?? assistant coach Jorge de Purificao confirmed to Namibia Sport on Wednesday that they have held numerous meetings regarding the future of Shiyuka at the club. He said Shiyuka is likely to be retained in a marketing portfolio at the club, but could also not shed much light on the issue as the clubâ??s president Helmuth Scharnowski is said to be out of the country.

No money worries for Ethiopia match

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) is not experiencing money problems ahead of the Brave Warriors last African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers tie against Ethiopia on September 8.

NFA to offer coaching courses

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) in collaboration with Sport Coachesâ?? Outreach (Score) will conduct nationwide coaching seminars as from the end of this month.

The areas that have been identified are Rundu, Windhoek, Swakopmund, Gobabis, Opuwo, Keetmanshoop, Khorixas and Oshakati. According to the NFA, the coaching courses are designated mainly for schoolteachers and whose names Score has already forwarded to the NFA.

Samaria eliminated in semi-finals

Namibiaâ??s middle distance queen, Agnes Samaria, failed to qualify for the final of the Womenâ??s 800 metres event after finishing last on Sunday in the third semi-final's heat at the IAAF World Championships currently underway in Osaka Japan.
