Cycling Improves on World Stage

By Glenn Howard

Dan Craven and Jacques Celliers did Namibia proud with top performances in the Time Trial competition at the B World Championships in Cape Town.

In almost windless clear weather conditions the two riders provided a solid performance despite both of them indicating afterwards that they did not hit their â??sweet spotâ? during the event. Craven finished 7th with Celliers finishing 13th against 56 starters in the time trial competition held on Friday 29 June.

SA Legends beat Shiyuka XI

South Africa finally beat Namibia on Namibian soil when a South African Legends team beat an Amos Shiyuka Invitation team 3-2 at Windhoekâ??s Independence Stadium on Saturday, June 30.
South Africa had not beaten Namibia in Windhoek since Independence, after losing two Cosafa Cup matches in 1998 and 1999, while also losing another exhibition match at MTCâ??s 10th anniversary celebrations in 2005. On Saturday, however, a goal by South African captain David Nyathi in the final ten minutes gave them a well deserved 3-2 victory.
