Jacques and Heletje win MB Marathon Champs

By Koos van Staden

Race day dawned bright and clear on Saturday, 15 July 2006 to greet a record entry of eager mountain bike riders and enthusiasts, who lined up at the Hochland Engen Service Station in Windhoek to tackle one of the two mountain bike distances on offer รข?? the 26km fun ride or the 61km Hochland Engen Namibia Mountain Bike Marathon Championships.

Poor turnout at Athletics Championships

The National Athletics Championships in Windhoek on July 15 was poorly attended with only seven of the thirteen regions present.
Furthermore, the organisation and standard of the championships left a lot to be desired as original qualifying standards were not adhered to. Athletes had to meet the qualifying standards for the national championships at various regional events, but in the end this criterium was done away with, resulting in a lot of entries at the last minute. This delayed proceedings by more than an hour and the eventual results were not of a high standard.
