It was a fitting farewell for former Brave Warriors midfielder Ricardo Mannetti as 5 000 soccer fans converged at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek on December 30 to see their star don the national colours for the last time.

The end of 2006 is upon us and with sporting activities dying down, we here at Namibia Sport will also close down for a short while.
We hope that you enjoyed our website in 2006 and look forward to bringing you more news in the new year. We also plan to bring some innovations to the website like more photos and interactive features like polls to get more feedback from you, our readers. 2006 was a year of mixed success with some sportsmen and women holding Namibiaâ??s name high on the international scene, while some sport codes were dragged through the mud by power-hungry administrators.

Ramona Beukes won the overall individual gold medal for senior girls at the Zone Six Gymnastics Championships in Harare, Zimbabwe from December 6 â?? 9.
She also picked up gold medals on the beam and bars apparatus, a silver on the floor and a bronze medal on the vault.

Young 14 year old swimmer Tristan McDonald is getting a taste of what his Scottish genes mixed with his Namibian background can produce: record performances en masse. He has proved it already this year with eight new Namibian records set between March and July. And he has just stamped his authority as Namibiaâ??s best backstroke and long distance swimmer with three new records and four medals at the Northern Tigers Swimming Championships in Pretoria.

Civics beat African Stars 4-3 on penalties to win the FNB Cup final at Windhoekâ??s Independence Stadium on Saturday, December 16.
In a gripping and tense match that swung to and fro, the teams were tied 2-all at the end of full time. After another 30 minutes of extra time still nothing separated the teams and the match had to be decided on penalties.

FNB Cup final

Cup final fever is upon us as the countdown has begun for the FNB Cup final with African Stars taking on Civics at 16h00 at Windhoekâ??s Independence Stadium tomorrow.
Civics suffered a major setback when key midfielder Rudi Louw failed an appeal and will not be able to play. He picked up a yellow card in the semifinal win against Blue Waters, after a clash with Bullet Gaingob, but Civics submitted video evidence that Louw was not involved in the incident.

African Stars and Civics are both struggling with injuries but both hope to be at full strength for the FNB Cup final which takes place at Windhoekâ??s Independence Stadium on Saturday.
Stars received a blow after their captain Andrew Tjahikika picked up two yellow cards in earlier rounds, with the result that he will miss the final. Starsâ?? coach Gilbert Rwasoka said they would miss his leadership, but that they had enough defenders to take his place.

Namibia qualified for the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France after convincingly beating Morroco 52-15 on aggregate, home and away over the past month.
Namibia won the first leg encounter 25-7 in Windhoek on October 28, and then put in a superb performance to beat Morocco 27-8 in Casablanca on November 11.
