Namibia came fifth out of eight countries at the Sub Saharan Invitational Swimming meet that took place in Lusaka, Zambia early in January.
The hosts Zambia won the competition with 3949,5 points, followed by Malawi (3366), Swaziland (3218) and Zimbabwe (3177,5). Namibia followed on 2009 points, followed by South Africa (1034), Uganda (879) and Kenya (33).

Wanderers ran out comfortable 5-2 winners against Ramblers in a menâ??s Premier League hockey match on January 25.
The teams were still tied 1-all at the break, but Wanderers turned on the pressure after the break as Ramblers ran out of steam.
It was Wanderersâ?? first victory since they were promoted to the Premier League a year ago, while Ramblers clearly missed former captain and national player Regan Graig, who was not available.

Ramblers started the defence of their womenâ??s Premier League title rather shakily when they beat Wanderers 3-2 on January 25.
They were pushed all the way by Wanderers and had to come from behind to secure the victory.
Silke Pennefather opened the scoring from a short corner, but Wanderers soon equalised from the penalty spot. Irene van Zyl was fouled in the box and Doris Burger scored from the spot.

Quinton Delie set the only record at Gala 10 in Windhoek on January 21.

Quinton Delie of Dolphins Swimming Club was the only record breaker at Gala 10 of the Namibia Amateur Swimming Union on January 21.
He improved his own 200m freestyle record in the age group 13-14 from 2:11.03 to 2:10.62.
Delie however only came tenth on the FINA points ranking system, which rates performances according to an international points system. He received 534 points for his record-breaking effort.

The Namibian Sports Commission (NSC) refuted allegations made in a newspaper article that the preparations for the Commonwealth Games are in shambles.
According to Rusten Mogane, chief administrator of NSC and Joan Smit the head of the delegation that travels to Melbourne in March, the preparations for the Games are on track.

Namibian Warrior Ali Nuumbembe has just signed a promotional deal with top promoter, Frank Maloney.
Maloney is the man who took Lennox Lewis to the World Title. He has now set up his own promotional outfit and is looking to become Britainâ??s top promoter after working for 5 years beside Frank Warren.

Unam womenâ??s Premier League side opened their Indoor League campaign with a 5-2 win against Wanderers on January 2.
It was a rather uninspiring match with both teamsâ?? players still quite unfit.
Unam took the lead with two quick goals in succession by Theodora Amatjira and Marilyn Nanus.

Windhoek Old Boys (WOB) menâ??s Premier League side got off to a winning start as they beat DTS 6-4 in the Tafel Lager Indoor Hockey League on January 20.
WOB immediately went on the attack and early goals by Bucko Bartlett (2) and Trevor Cormack gave them a commanding 3-0 lead.

Windhoek Old Boys Sports Clubâ??s (WOB) womenâ??s Premier League team came from behind to beat DTS 5-4 in the opening match of the 2006 Tafel Lager Indoor Hockey League on January 20.
DTS fielded two new national strikers in former Unam players Frieda Kalondo and Penny Ankama, and soon streaked into a 3-0 lead, Ankama scoring two and Kalondo one.

Namibian hockey star Magy Mengo has made her mark as a professional player in Holland after signing up with Dutch Premier League team Kampong Hockey Club in September last year.
Mengo first played for Dutch First Division club Spanderbosch last year, but joined Kampong after being spotted by their coach Rob Bianchi. Bianchi, who is also the assistant Dutch coach, was sufficiently impressed to sign up Mengo as a professional player.
