Iita wins Engen Subway Mile
Submitted by editor on Sun, 10/16/2005 - 16:43.Reinhold Iita of the Namibian Defence Force won the Subway Engen Mile in Windhoek on October 15 in an excellent time of 4:17:25.
Iita beat a field of 60 participants to win the event in cool and overcast conditions in the Namibian capital.
Altman wins The Namibian Cycle Classic
Submitted by editor on Sun, 10/16/2005 - 16:29.Unheralded cyclist Manus Altman won The Namibia Model Pick & Pay Cycle Tour on October 16.
Altman, a Namibian by birth, who currently resides in Cape Town, took the Namibian cycling community by complete surprise to win the 100km Cycle Classic.
Aiken wins MTC Namibian PGA Championship
Submitted by editor on Sat, 10/15/2005 - 20:30.South Africa's Thomas Aiken wrote his own piece of golfing history in Namibia on October 15 when capped a brilliant season with an emphatic four stroke victory at the MTC Namibian PGA Championship in Windhoek.
Blaauw leads Verdoes by 10 seconds
Submitted by editor on Sat, 10/15/2005 - 20:20.The 2005 Tour de Windhoek is set to go down to the wire, with only ten seconds separating the first two cyclists.
After three of the four stages, Under 16 cyclist Jaco Blaauw leads another Under 16 cyclist Jan Hendrik Verdoes by ten seconds, while veteran cyclist Michael Swanepoel follows in third place, 39 seconds off the pace.
Bothma holds one shot lead
Submitted by editor on Fri, 10/14/2005 - 23:48.Michiel Bothma leads by one after the second round of the MTC Namibian PGA Championship and the 2004 Telkom PGA Championship winner is anxious to add the Namibian title to his tally.
On a tough scoring day, the 32-year-old Pretoria professional cruised a second round 64 to take his overall score to 12-under-par 130 for a one-shot advantage over Order of Merit leader, Thomas Aiken and two ahead of Cape Town's Peter Karmis.
Geyer steps up the pace
Submitted by editor on Fri, 10/14/2005 - 16:25.Unheralded Werner Geyer stepped it up another notch in the second round of the MTC Namibian PGA Championship to take an early four stroke lead with the afternoon field still out on course.
Geyer carded a four-under-par 67 in the ideal morning conditions at Windhoek Country Club to take his overall score to nine-under 133, four strokes ahead of Mike Lamb (67), Andre Cruse (68) and Nico van Rensburg (66) tied for second on 137.
Celliers takes the yellow jersey
Submitted by editor on Fri, 10/14/2005 - 11:01.Jacques Celliers of the Prowealth team took an early lead after the first stage of the Tour de Windhoek in the Namibian capital on October 13.
Celliers completed the 5km Prologue in a time of 5 minutes 48 seconds to take the yellow jersey for the Tour.
