Ushona remains unbeaten

Namibian welterweight champion Tyson Ushona remained unbeaten after beating South Africa?s Schoeman Sindane on a fifth round technical knockout on March 18.
Ushona was in impressive form as he gradually wore his opponent down at a Telecom Boxing Bonanza at the Windhoek Country Club.

Old Boys shock Unam

Windhoek Old Boys Social Club (WOB) produced a major upset by beating Unam 4-3 in a women?s Indoor Hockey Premier League match on March 16.
The youthful WOB side put in their best performance of the season with a fine team effort, but the opposite was true for Unam who couldn?t combine well as a team, while spirited defence by WOB in the second half kept them out.

DTS increase their lead

DTS beat Wanderers 5-2 in a Tafel Lager Indoor Hockey women?s Premier League match on March 14 to strengthen their lead at the top of the table.
Anri van den Berg put DTS in the lead in the 7th minute when she fired home a cross by Andrea Beiter, and a minute later Birgitte Augustyn made it 2-0 after a fine run.

Wheal and Van Zijl are top swimmers

Ashley Wheal and Dannielle van Zijl, both of Marlins Swimming Club, won the senior Victor Ludorum and Victrix Ludorum trophies respectively at the Namibian National Swimming Championships over the weekend.

Sunshine wins Coca Cola Top Ten Club Championships

Sunshine Athletics Club won the Coca Cola Top Ten Athletics Club Championships for the first time on March 11.
Sunshine won with a total of 8636 points, followed by Unam on 8604 and WHS on 8208.
Frank Puriza of Unam won the Victor Ludorum trophy with a total of 1002 points. Puriza won the men?s 200m in a time of 21,59 seconds, as well as the 400m in a time of 47,82 seconds.

Grobler shines in United victory

Namibian centre Du Preez Grobler scored two tries as United beat Wanderers 18-13 in a tough derby at the Wanderers rugby field on March 12.
The victory extended United?s unbeaten run against their traditional rivals to three years. United won last year?s derby 12-9, the teams drew 18-all in 2003, while Wanderers won 13-11 in 2002.

DTS and Unam drew 4-all in a thrilling top-of-the-table men?s Premier League indoor hockey match on March 9.
DTS started on the attack and after early pressure, took the lead when Aiden Bates scored from a short corner in the second minute.

Ramblers close in on DTS

Ramblers moved to within a point of log leaders DTS after beating Wanderers 4-1 in a Tafel Lager women?s Premier League match on March 9.
Ramblers took a 3rd minute lead when Christa Kayser scored from a quick counter-attack and 4 minutes later Silke Pennefather made it 2-0 after a good solo run by Tanya Frankle.

MTC announces N$100 000 sponsorship for Strydom

Namibia?s Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) announced a total sponsorship of N$100 000 for Namibia?s young tennis star Jurgens Strydom on March 9.
The sponsorship will enable Strydom to compete in several International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior tournaments in 2005, including the Junior Grand Slam events at the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.

WOB beat Ramblers in high scoring thriller

Windhoek Old Boys Social Club (WOBSC) beat Ramblers 9-4 in an enthralling Tafel Lager men?s Premier League match on March 6.
Ramblers were still in with a chance after trailing 2-1 at halftime, but WOB turned on the pressure after the break with some brilliant performances. Archie Botha, with five goals, and Trevor Cormack and Bucko Bartlett, with two each, all combined brilliantly as WOB ran riot.
